ABOUT BOLIFAMBA

Bolifamba, popularly known as Mile 16, is a community in Buea, Cameroon located 2 miles from Buea Central. It is made up of an estimated 30,000 inhabitants. This community’s economy thrives on small farmers and small shop businesses. It has notable prospect for development given its proximity to the University of Buea and Buea’s emergence as a technological hub for this region of Africa. However, mile 16 is a low-income community that faces a lot of challenges including poor health outcomes, poverty, substance use, unemployment, poor education outcomes, and early pregnancies. Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (also referred to as WASH) has been a particular concern in this community given the multitude of small streams that transverse through the community as well as a growing population. We launched the Bolifamba community transformation project to change the hearts and minds of the people in Mile 16 in the next 10 years. This is because we believe change happens inside-out Specifically, we are targeting transformation in the form of education, businesses, and water.
These focus areas were chosen by the young adults and currently lead the initiatives. They have decided that they are not waiting for change to happen, they will take ownership. The youth in this community are the leaders of both today and tomorrow.
